About the Russian national initiative "Save the forest"

More than 40 million trees have been planted in Russia in 2020 as a result of the national campaign "Save the Forest". The aim of the campaign is to draw attention of the general public to the topic of reforestation, especially in the regions most affected by forest fires. According to the UN Environment Program, trees help conserve soil and water, prevent desertification and absorb huge amounts of carbon dioxide, which is essential in the fight against climate change.

Large-scale tree-planting activities have been carried out for the second year in a row as part of the Russian national project "Ecology". In 2019, 37 million trees were planted. In 2020, taking into account the observance of epidemiological safety measures, the action was supported by around 1 million people.

Anyone can take part in tree planting. Planting of seedlings takes place in almost all regions of Russia.

The campaign will continue in 2021.
